The Verona Little League Tournament Teams hosted the 2nd Annual Its Time Family Night Out. The event was held at Its Time Grill and Pub in Verona on Saturday, May 18. A buffet-style menu was provided. The 11U Coaching Staff were guest bartenders and servers throughout the night and several parents are credited for volunteering their time to organize the raffle. 10% of all sales and all tips were donated by Its Time owner, Tim McRoberts. The event raised approximately $3,000 which tripled last year’s event AND the turnout was outstanding!!! Thank you to It’s Time, Mike Murphy, Cory Fulton, Tim McRoberts, Heather Chatman, all the parents that coordinated the raffle baskets, and the entire VLL community for making this event a great success!

Verona Little League was excited to welcom former UW-Stevens Point and minor league player Justin Jirshele to the hitting facility on February 9, 2017. Justin’s message was working hard to achieve what you want in the future. He also stressed and worked one on one with each player’s hitting stance, swing, and finish. The kids and coaches appreciated Justin’s time and expertise. In 2017, Coach Jirschele, at the age of 27, was the youngest manager in professional baseball for the Kannapolis Intimidators, the Chicago White Sox Single A affiliate team. Coach Jirschele’s older brother, Jeremy, is the head baseball coach at UW Stevens Point. His father, Mike, is the 3rd base coach for the Kansas City Royals.
Verona Little League was excited to welcome hometown hero, former Verona Wildcat, and Minnesota Twin, Ben Rortvedt to the hitting facility in mid January. Ben spent a few hours with the boys stressing the importance of skills and fundamentals centered around hitting. The kids and coaches appreciated Ben’s time and expertise. Not only did he provide some solid fundamental work but he also took a few pitches from Coach Steve Fenrick while the players watched. He ended with signing autographs which ranged from balls to hats. Ben Rortvedt was 4 year varsity starter and 1st team all state catcher in 2015 & 2016. He was drafted 56th overall by the Minnesota Twins in 2016 and this past summer played for the Class A Cedar Rapids Kernals of the Midwest League.
